How to Make a Vase from Two Tiles

First:  Make Two Tiles ...the same size...these are about 22 inches square.  As you can see I made them in quite high relief...but you don't have to

Next move the flat tiles to something that will bend them...I made this bender board by bending a  a very thin board between to 1x3's

Let them get leather hard..
Now attach them upright to a bottom slab...this is the same process just on another set of taller slabs... of course smooth and hollow the backside....
for the sides extrude a large coil the same length as the
tiles and position half way between inside and outside of the tiles... add a slab for the top and create the can throw the necks or hand build

An here it is just about finished...easy peasy...NOT

In the Studio...Look what showed up on the Vulture/Happy Face, Prometheus!!

Prometheus was a Greek character who stole light from the Gods and gave it to human kind...his punishment...he was chained to a rock to daily have his liver eaten by a vulture (it regrew every night)

My Promethean character is chained to a smiley face/ball and chain...what fun...I love sculpting hands and feet.    But the feathers... Tedious ...wonder what's next for this piece...may a monkey painting on the yellow color of the happy face....hmmm... or a dove making a piece symbol to the vulture...hmm maybe both... So much fun when the narrative is churning away...just can't wait to get in the studio to start work each morning...

In the studio working on new series, Pegasus horses, with my 'hummel with attitude' Thunderfeet children, Alice's white rabbit, and that darn raven with of course my beloved books...been thinking  about that rabbit  and his watch...since he's always concerned about being late, is he a symbol of the temporal concerns that we try to integrate into our spiritual soul life? Here he is fighting to stay balanced while the thunderfoot child has no balance worries whatsoever...ahh to be as a little child...not childish but rather childlike...what's the difference?   I think  childlike is about humility/simplicity/littleness  and childish would be the total ignoring of any social grace and  reliance on emotion over intellect and spirit...Watcha thinka?

I added this pic so you could see that darn raven off to the left...he's got a riddler in his for thought?

Head in the Clouds Sculpture

Here's a new piece in process...working title "Head in the Clouds or Higher Education. I'm building it hollow using my favorite IMCO P'Clay...there are straws...interiorly which will burn out and are vented to the outside...notice child's head..and foal's nostrils.
